About Us

Our Story

Harvesting Heritage was born from a simple but radical conviction: that the most powerful forces for change are joy, respect, and aspiration — and that food is the most natural home for all three.

Caroline McCann founded Harvesting Heritage after nearly two decades at the frontier of South Africa's food and land systems, beginning in 2007 when she helped introduce free-range and grass-fed meat to a market that had never seen it. That same instinct for what is possible before it becomes obvious drives everything HH does today. Over the years, the philosophy deepened, the partnerships grew, and the methodology became clear: People, Planet, and Plate are not just pillars but they are a practice.

Today, Harvesting Heritage is becoming something larger than its founder. We are building a home for practitioners who share these values. We are growing our table where expertise, lived experience, and genuine passion for Africa's food heritage come together in service of communities, landscapes, and economies that deserve better.
